Guild Policies

The Knights of Valor

About us and how to succeed in our family.

The Knights of Valor are one of the oldest guilds on the Steamwheedle Cartel Server. We have been 75+ strong since the very beginnings of the server. Our member base is unique because we value friendship and a POSITIVE atmosphere over individual gearing needs, or being "first guild there" . I will fall short of saying there's "ZERO Drama" (any guild that says that is either: a) lying [or] b) in serious denial) however, with the friendships that have been forged here, most guild issues are resolved swiftly and with minimal effect on the overall morale of the guild. That's the way it's been since day one, and that's the way it will continue to be as long as KoV exists.

In order to be successful within KoV, you must possess and earn one thing: Trust.

You must earn our trust in your abilities and loyalties just as we will earn your trust in the leadership and other members in our guild.

We are not exclusive in the least. If you are down-to-earth, kind-hearted and non-judgmental with us, we will be the very same with you. We welcome new members with the same open arms as our first charter signers. In KoV, you truly start with a clean slate. Only when you tarnish that, will you slowly work yourself out of our good graces.

What we expect from new members is that you will allow time for that mutual trust to be formed.

We are strict but we are fair. The Code of Conduct applies to each and every member evenly, from the Commander to the lowest ranking Knight- No exceptions are made, and punishment comes swiftly to those that ignore our policies.

Raiders:
  • If you are coming to this guild, expecting to be spoon fed raids or boss loot, think again. What we need from our new raiding members is patience, a willing to learn with the team, and dedication. Show us those things and your spot on our raid team and our guild will surely be solidified (i.e., If you do not, you may be wait-listed despite meeting sign-up and class role requirements).

What we DO NOT need from a raider is this:
Someone who believes him/herself so skilled and "above" our current progression level that he/she believes to be an exception to any of our stated policies, and without fault. We are above all, a family. With or without a raid team.

On helping guildmates:
  • Almost every month we ask our members what they need as far as group quests and dungeon runs. If you communicate your needs, we can try to make them happen. Remember to be patient and that guild members are more willing to help you if you help in return.

On progression:
  • We are not in a race to be "server-first." Our goal is ongoing progression without becoming "hardcore" and sacrificing friendships and trust. Again, this is the reason we have been around as long as we have. This is our strength. After all, all the gear in the world is no fun if you can't use it to fight beside people you GENUINELY enjoy being around.

On integration:
  • The one sure method in meshing with us is Vent. Use vent as often as possible. I've found that new members that use vent and are in tune with the current conversations and inner workings of the guild, tend to feel the most included and accepted among us.
  • The website! Using the website, the forums, and the guild schedule

RP Level and Guild Focus

  • The Knights of Valor are considered a light RP guild. We no longer have an RP committee, but we respect the RP nature of our server. If you RP, you will likely find Knights to go along with you, even though RP is not officially supported at this time.
  • Guild chat is OOC, but not constrained to such. However, we expect members to be IC when talking in yell, General, or other publicly viewed channels. That is to say: no "l337" speak or abuse of the General/LFG/Trade channels.
  • Our guild focus is PVE progression without becoming hardcore. Our raiders are players that:

    1) Work well together
    2) Have patience
    3) Are willing to work under our guidelines and policies.
    4) Show up on time the majority of our events.

Knights of Valor Ethical Standards

Unacceptable Behaviors:

  • Treating any other member of KoV with disrespect, up to and including council. Disrespect includes the following:
    • Swearing at or belittling another member of KoV.
    • Disregard of the chain of command or any direct orders given.
    • Slandering another member. Stealing or scamming ANY player in the World of Warcraft.
    • ANY ACTION PERCEIVED as disrespectful toward another member in which such disrespect was made in full knowledge of that perception.
  • Abuse of rank or position for personal gain.
  • Abuse of General chat or other publicly viewable channels, including server forums. Generally speaking this means don't annoy the channel. If you have been asked to stop - Stop and/or apologize.
  • Acting immature within GC. Potentially sexually/racially offensive statements will not be tolerated within KoV.
    • Do not use our guild as a dating service. Please treat all members of the opposite sex as players, not as a "prospective date". In other words: Just play the game, have fun, but keep the cheesy pickup lines, obnoxious flirting or sexual remarks to yourself.
  • Publicly undermining a council/command decision: This is not to say one cannot ask questions regarding a certain decision. This is mainly concerned with statements not particularly constructive and aimed at creating contempt within the guild toward the command. The Knights of Valor are not a "Democracy". Democracy's are wildly inefficient and time consuming. Some decisions are polled upon within the guild, some are not. However, once a decision or policy is made, it is final unless it is evident that it does not work. No amount of resistance is likely to change that otherwise.
  • Ninja'ing, Corpse Camping, Grieving, Blue-flagging and all other "common sense" MMORPG Unethical Behaviors are not supported by The Knights of Valor.
  • Profanity. There is a fine line between spicing your vocabulary with an obsenity and being just plain obscene. Try to refrain from swearing within the confines of GC (and completely from public channels) Overusage of obnoxious profanity in any channel or format may result in a suspension or removal. Refusal to stop after someone, (yes even ONE person) has asked you to stop in Guild Chat could subject you to Council action.
  • Being despondent and completely apathetic to the guild's cause, or needs of our members. Cases of this will be investigated by the council and a decision based on their findings will be made.
  • Abuse of Ventrilo or other VOIP utility. Screaming, causing a scene and being generally inconsiderate could cause you to get banned from vent or possibly kicked from guild.
  • Any harassment from any sex toward any other sex, that is innapropriate or unsolicited
  • Use of "L337" speak within guild or in the public light will cause the command to seriously reconsider your guild standing. It's old-hat, doesnt make you look any more "hardcore" than anyone else, and is REALLY annoying to read. If you want to show how "hardcore" you are, make it to all our raids on time, get keyed, get attuned, learn your role in a group, help your guildies, follow instructions during raids, contribute your knowledge in a tactful manner and stay positive.[/i]
  • Expectations of powerleveling.
  • "World revolves around me" syndrome. What this means is; If you are trying to find a group and for whatever reason, no one in the guild is available or desires to help you at the moment, refrain from throwing a hissy fit in guild chat. If you are frustrated, try posting on the forums, talk to an officer, send a couple of tells to someone within the guild. Don’t just assume that everyone has it out for you or just doesn’t like you. There are a number of reasons you may not be getting responses. If all else fails, talk to an officer

In summary...

We're here to have fun. While I understand that means different things to different people, I would like OUR fun to be positive in nature, and not at the expense of others. The rules and policies here exist to minimize drama, weed out loot whores, and foster friendships so that we maintain a mutual respect for one another.

Most of these rules are common sense things that most normal, well-adjusted, mature individuals don't need a guide for... But for the rest of you... There it is.

Thanks
Hornus
Grand Marshall, Knights of Valor
